College of Nursing gets $46,690 for nursing scholarships

Szigeti_detailSYRACUSE, N.Y. — The College of Nursing at Upstate Medical University has been awarded $46,690 from the Health Resources and Service Administration (HRSA) to provide scholarships for nurses pursuing their advanced degrees.

HRSA is a program of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services designed to develop a culturally competent and diverse workforce.

"Given the economic challenges of today, this support from HRSA will enable more nurses to seek additional education and training; it is very much appreciated," said Elvira Szigeti, Ph.D., R.N., dean of the College of Nursing.  "The role of nurses today is growing significantly and it's important that opportunities for advanced training are available and affordable."

Szigeti said the amount of each scholarship would depend on how many applications are funded.

SUNY Upstate's College of Nursing enrolls approximately 389 students and offers bachelor's, master's and post-master's advanced certificates.
